In the spirit of school pride and community service, Day of Service brings together the University of Minnesota global community of alumni and friends for the opportunity to serve in their communities. Since 2015, volunteers have served in many different ways curated by the University of Minnesota Alumni Association. Side by side the U of M community makes lasting impact around the world. Join others during the month of April to find your day to serve wherever you live.

Thank you to the more than 950 volunteers that participated in Day of Service in 2023. Together we all served over 2,550 hours and produced an economic impact of more than $80,000! Frequently Asked Questions 

A. Everyone is welcome to join us for U of M Day of Service. Whether you are alumni, student, staff or a friend of the University of Minnesota, you are invited to participate alongside your Gopher family! 
A. Some sites have restrictions on youth volunteers due to safety. If a site has restrictions we will note as such in the details for a site. We do our very best to include a variety of sites so even our youngest Gophers can volunteer. 
A. If you are interested in hosting a group site, contact Volunteer and Engagement Coordinator Neal Bhakta at bhakt058@umn.edu
 
A. Yes, all sites are open to all volunteers. Hosted sites give volunteers an opportunity to connect with their college/network if they are unsure of what site to choose. However, you are welcome to volunteer at any of the available sites. 
 
A. No worries, you can always sign up for an independent project. Simply find a volunteer opportunity you want to do in your community and register your independent project with us. Don’t forget to use #UMNDayofService on social media so we can see what you are up to on the day of.
