Jerry Sosinske

Recipient of the 2023 Advocate of the Year Award

A 1978 graduate of the College of Science and Engineering, Jerry Sosinske’s commitment to the University of Minnesota is evident through his active engagement. In addition to being a Life Member of the UMAA, Jerry's involvement spans serving on the College of Science and Engineering Alumni Society Board, the Collegiate Council, and the Annual Celebration Steering Committee. As an experienced professional, Jerry is a scientist and STEM educator as well as a founding member and chair of the Boston Scientific STEM council and the MN STEM network.

Notably, Jerry has taken proactive steps to establish meaningful relationships with his legislators in order to advocate for the University. His engagement includes attending a League of Women Voters forum before the 2022 election to build connections, and during the legislative session, initiated meetings with his local legislators. In 2023 he connected with Senator Mann, a member of the Health and Human Services Committee, to address concerns regarding the UMN Health request and the Sanford/Fairview merger. In these interactions, including emails, Jerry shared his personal UMN story.

Throughout 2023, Jerry attended every Minnesota 201 event and consistently responded to volunteer and advocacy action alerts and requests. As an advocate, he has enthusiastically rallied support for the University among fellow alumni and legislators by fostering genuine connections and sharing his unique perspective.
